The MCA chief also clarified that they consulted the BCCI on the issue and have intimated their decision to the Indian board in writing. “We have consulted the BCCI on this. We have written to them on what we have decided. This is an MCA property; BCCI and IPL officials were also present there. Rules are the same for all,” he said.

Responding to MCA’s decision, parliamentarian and IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla sounded in disagreement and said as the country’s apex cricket body, the BCCI reserves the rights to take a final decision. “Anybody can take any decision. Final decision can only be taken by the BCCI,” Shukla responded.

The actor was involved in a verbal spat with the MCA officials on Wednesday night following his team’s victory against the hosts Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede. Shah Rukh allegedly abused and shoved a security guard at the stadium. This after his entourage, which included several children sporting KKR team jerseys, was stopped from stepping onto the field.

The police filed a non-cognisable offence against the actor on Thursday, while Shah Rukh insisted that he was provoked first. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Iqbal Shaikh had said on Thursday that the actor was under the influence of alcohol and used foul language against the MCA officials and the security personnel. “We could smell alcohol on him, and he was abusive. I tried to drive him away,” the ACP said.

Shah Rukh countered the claims saying, “I was there to protect my children. The security guards were the ones who were aggressive. I saw these guards touching girls not older than 13; I told them to stop.” The actor claimed he was left with little choice. “Of course, I was abusive. What could I have done! I would do it again. It has become fashionable for officials to throw their weight if they see a celebrity,” Shah Rukh said.
