Press Release
Protest Vigil to Condemn Attack on Prashant Bhushan
People’s Plaza, Necklace Road, Hyderabad
4 pm to 5 pm- 13th October 2011
Concerned citizens and representatives of civil society organisations of Hyderabad strongly denounce and condemn the dastardly attack on the renowned lawyer and democracy activist Prashant Bhushan. Such attacks are a sign of the growing menace of intolerance and fascist forces that must be challenged and checked. What is most shocking and reprehensible is that the attack took place within the precincts of the Supreme Court of India- one of the highest symbols of our democracy.
The Sri Ram Sena, that was behind the attack, and all other similar organisations of whatever hue that indulge in intolerance and violent acts are a threat to the multi faceted, multicultural, secular and democratic fabric of our great nation and cause incalculable damage to security, peace and progress of the entire society if they are not checked and contained effectively. The vested interests and forces that encourage and support such disruptive forces from behind the scenes should also be investigated and exposed.
We, the Concerned Citizens and representatives of civil society organisations of Hyderabad demand that an enquiry should be instituted under a sitting Judge of the Supreme Court of India to investigate all aspects and expose all the forces behind this unacceptable and reprehensible attack within the precincts of the Supreme Court to give exemplary punishment to all those directly and indirectly involved to ensure that such shameful incidences never occur again.
